According to the Urban Dictionary, a family is “a group of people…who genuinely love, trust, care about, and look out for each other… REAL family is a bondage that cannot be broken by any means.” At the Clay Center, this definition particularly resonates because we know from experience in working with many different young people and caregivers that familial love runs deeper than just blood.

These four blended families, built through newborn and foster adoption, share what family means to them. Their honest and heartfelt stories show that family is something we have the power to create. It is life’s intimate joys and struggles that we share with those we love and trust that truly bring us together.
