Alex S. Keuroghlian, MD MSc MPH, is Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at MaineHealth and Chief of MaineHealth Behavioral Health. He was previously Michele and Howard J Kessler Chair and Director, Division of Public and Community Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH); Director of the Division of Education and Training at The Fenway Institute; Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School; and founding Director of the MGH Psychiatry Gender Identity Program.
Dr. Keuroghlian is currently principal investigator of a HRSA-funded center to develop, evaluate, and disseminate novel street medicine interventions for people with HIV who are unsheltered. From 2017 to 2025, he was principal investigator of the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center, a HRSA-funded cooperative agreement to improve health care for LGBTQIA+ people. From 2021-2025, Dr. Keuroghlian was principal investigator of the 2iS Coordinating Center for Technical Assistance, also funded by HRSA, to implement innovative intervention strategies nationally for people with HIV in four priority areas: substance use disorders, LGBTQIA+ youth, incarceration, and telehealth. Dr. Keuroghlian was previously principal investigator of the HRSA-funded E2i Coordinator Center for Technical Assistance (2017-2021), which implemented evidence-informed, culturally tailored interventions nationally for people with HIV in four focus areas: transgender women, Black men who have sex with men, behavioral health integration into primary care, and identifying and addressing trauma.
Dr. Keuroghlian has authored over 190 scholarly publications and served as editor the textbooks, Transgender and Gender Diverse Health Care, published by McGraw Hill, and Gender-Affirming Psychiatric Care, published by the American Psychiatric Association.
