Gene

Beresin, Executive Director

Gene Beresin, M.D. is executive director of The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a full professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School (HMS), and senior educator in child and adolescent psychiatry at MGH. As a clinician and educator with 35 years of experience in working with youth, Dr. Beresin has focused on prevention, early intervention and treatment of teens and young adults. He has been a keynote speaker at local and international conferences, and is often called upon by media to weigh in on issues relevant to this vulnerable population and the unique impact of societal issues.

Deirdre

Phillips, Managing Director

Deedee Phillips is managing director of the Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). She provides leadership, strategic direction, overall planning and oversight, and financial management for the Center. Her commitment to mental health education for youth builds on her prior role as Executive Director of The Autism Consortium, a unique clinical and research collaboration based at Harvard Medical School.  The Consortium brought together many of Boston’s premier research and healthcare institutions to catalyze progress in understanding autism, improve diagnosis and clinical care, facilitate funding/investment in Boston autism research, build community and deliver needed resources to families.  The Consortium contributed to establishing Boston as a nationally respected center for autism research and care.

Ellen

Braaten, Co-Director

Ellen Braaten, Ph.D. is co-director of The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), director of the Learning and Emotional Assessment Program (LEAP) at MGH, and an associate professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School.  She is a psychologist, teacher, and researcher whose career has focused on improving understanding and treatment of children with learning and attention issues, particularly ADHD, learning disabilities, dyslexia, autism spectrum, and processing speed.  Ellen is frequently called on by main stream and popular media to elucidate on the complexities of learning differences and challenges among young people. She holds the Kessler Family Chair in Pediatric Neuropsychological Assessment.

Steven

Schlozman, Co-Director

Steven Schlozman, M.D. is co-director of The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School (HMS), and course director of the psychopathology class for the MIT-HMS Program in Health, Sciences and Technology. Dr. Schlozman practices child and adult psychiatry at MGH, where he is the primary consultant to the pediatric transplant service.

Rattigan, Comm. Director

Sara Rattigan is the communications director for The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and a public health communicator whose passion is fueled in finding creative approaches to promote health and well-being among young people. She oversees the execution of all production and marketing efforts related to the Center’s original educational content, speaking engagements, and media coverage.

Matthew

Carron, Research Assistant

Matthew Carron is the research assistant for The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and also serves as the Youth Program Coordinator for the Mass General Revere Youth Zone. Matthew graduated from Clark University in 2018 with a B.A. in psychology. Matthew is passionate about promoting mental health and intends to pursue a career in clinical psychology using what he’s learned from his time at the Clay Center.

Gayeon Lee

Gayeon Lee is the editorial assistant for The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). She is passionate about approaching public mental health through narrative and the arts, and currently studies applied psychology and medical humanities at Boston College. Her recent projects in theater and creative writing led to her participation on the “Expanding the View of Mental Health” panel at the 2018 Medical Humanities Conference at Boston College, and in the “Literary Writing at the Intersection of the Arts, Medicine, and Science” workshop at the 2017 Yale Writers’ Conference. She is the managing editor of The Medical Humanities Journal of Boston College.
